Plot Summary
The party is talking with Bontan’s cousin on the opposite side of the bridge to the plateau, and she explains that she’s going to his mentor, Avu Nihar, to have her vampiric tapeworm removed. A group of guards comes across looking for them. One of them is a friend of Snak’s and warns him that the guards are out looking for the party under orders to bring them in immediately. The party hides from them and begins to set up camp a little ways off the path to the bridge. During the night, a huge creature comes to feast on the dead stiltpuffer corpse, but they do not get attacked.
In the morning, the party and Bontan’s cousin set off for Avu Nihar, miraculously managing to not have any encounters on the way. They meet another of Nihar’s students as they approach his fortification, and Bontan reconnects with her, then the party moves inside the fence. They quickly meet up with Nihar, who introduces himself by sternly telling Bontan he is very late coming back with the roots he was supposed to gather. They ask Nihar about the death curse, and Morra blurts out that she needs to write a paper on something and asks if he can go into more detail. Amazingly, Nihar knows Morra’s homeroom teacher in school and has received exchange students from her before, and agrees to grade her paper when she is done writing it.
After a night of drinking, Nihar sends the party to a ruin that is a day and a half hike away to gather undead-repellant fungus he needs to repair a talisman for one of the wandering tribes on the continent. They are sent with an undead escort to prevent any encounters, and Snak is excited because this is where he stashed the stuff he stole from the militia. However, it turns out that someone has already been inside the room he put it, and the walls of the cave the party went into suddenly clap shut behind them.
