Synopsis
The video cold-opens on semi-formal dinner party. The hostess (Kathleen) answers the door to find an attendee named Jeff (Paul). The only person whom Jeff would know at the party is his friend Julia, but the hostess reveals that Julia is sick with food poisoning. Jeff himself did not realize that a) the party was somewhat formal and that b) it was a potluck; he has not brought any food and is attending in gym shorts and a bright pink t-shirt that is too small for him. The hostess then brings him into the next room and introduces him to the group, mispronouncing his name in the process. She then reveals that she has a tradition of having guests tell the group humorous jokes and decides to start with Jeff as the newcomer. At this point, Jeff, clearly distressed, snatches a large remote control from offscreen and slams a big red button on it.
It is revealed that Jeff is a contestant on "Social Anxiety Fear Factor", a reality show that tests how long people can survive in intensely awkward scenarios. Jeff is congratulated by the host, Jeremy Michaels (Jer) on his performance at the dinner party, lasting for 1 minute and 45 seconds. Jeremy cuts to flashbacks of previous tasks, including "sitting in awkward silence" and "interrupting an awkward stranger", both of which he performed poorly in, and "getting the neighbor to return a borrowed tool", which he received a fantastic score in (though in fact he only got such a low time because he snapped and violently beat the neighbor (Cameron) into submission). His competitor, Eugene (Beej), completely fails the Dinner Party event, panicking right as the hostess opens the door. This means that Jeff will move on to the show's grand finale, but he has locked himself in a bathroom during Eugene's segment and has to be forced out by the staff.
The stinger shows that Jeff goes on to become the victor for the season, but his accepts the reward from beneath a pile of clothing and retreats as soon as he finishes giving his speech, demanding to be left alone.
