How to Make a Video Entry

From LoadingReadyWiki
Jump to navigationJump to search

If you have a unix-like system, and you want to create a page for the latest video, you can use one of these scripts:

How to Make a Video Entry/WeeklyScript

How to Make a Video Entry/CheckPointScript

How to Make a Video Entry/UnSkippableScript

How to Make a Video Entry/FeedDumpScript

How to Make a Video Entry/LoadingTimeScript

How to Make a Video Entry/LRRCastScript

The articles tend to follow some basic rules:

Names

For the cast and the crew of a video please use full names. The first time the name is used it should be turned into a link by adding two square brackets around it, like this:

Graham Stark

. Additional instances of that name shouldn't be turned into a link. Outside of the Vital Statistics section is ok to use first names. If the person has not mentioned before their name should be linked and if not a member of the main crew or the core support crew their full name should be used the first time they are mentioned. To make a link that displays one bit of text but links to something else, type what you want to link to within the brackets, put a vertical divider immediately after it, then write what you want to appear in the link, like this:

One of the two founding members of LRR

One of the two founding members of LRR

How to make section headings

When making a new section, type the name of that section, then surround it with two equal signs on each side, like this:

Vital Statistics
If you want to make additional subsections, just increase the number of equals signs, like this:

Subsection
Required Sections

There are at least four sections that should be present on every video page.

MiniCommentary

The first has no heading. It contains the mini commentary that comes right after each video's title in the archive. Just paste it into the edit box, being sure not to include the name of the video (the Wiki adds that at the top of the page automatically).

Vital Statistics

The second is the Vital Statistics section. It should always include the following information: original release date of the video (when the video's thread in the forum started is a good way to find it), the people appearing in it (in order of appearance if possible), who wrote it, who operated the camera, who did the editing (almost always Graham), and the video's location(s). Some videos may have additional bits of information, like "Special Thanks to" and so on.

  • It is best to copy the credits of the video. Early videos and The Escapist hosted videos have their credits at the end of the video; other videos have their credits on their archive page.
  • If a crew member or supporting crew member is not mentioned in the provided credits but appears in the video, include them in the wiki page. However non crew members who are extras, for example people in a background crowd, should not be included.
  • When making the labels for the information, write the word, a colon, and hit space, then surround all that with three apostrophes on each side, like this:
Location:

You can type in the information right after the second group of apostrophes, you don't need to add spaces.

  • Right below the line that says Vital Statistics, create a right-aligned box to contain the video's picture, like this:
{ | align="right"
| URL of the picture written here
| }
  • Need to write something about uploading files

Synopsis

The third is the Synopsis. It is a short summary of what happened in the video.

The Bonus Video Entries

Whatever Thing entries should be written in the same fashion as any video entry, with the slight difference that the writer of the haiku and the filmer of the Whatever clip are acknowledged as well. To do this:

  • Place the forum names of both people in the vital statistics, and their real names if they can be found.
  • Put the text of the Haiku in the synopsis.

Phailhaüs entries should be written in the same fashion as any video entry, with the slight difference that the Word of the Day, Pic of the Day, and Day of the Day should be included in the synopsis, if they are in the video.

Trivia

The Trivia section should include anything interesting and trivial.

  • To make a trivial point, put a star in front of it, like this:
*This is an example of making trivial points.
    • Putting more stars makes subpoints, like this:
*This is a trivial point.
**This is a trivial subpoint.
***This is a trivial subsubpoint.

Template

Templates are used to easily insert a large amount of text using only a few words.
Examples of uses for templates:

Navigation (such as FeedDumpNavigation)
Headers (such as Confuse for pages with similar names)
Episodes (such as CommodoreHUSTLEEpisodes)
Categories (such as NeedImage)
And much more (A complete list)

Examples of parameters follow and how to formulate templates are at the bottom of the page

Example

The following is an example of what the editing page should probably look like when the video entry is completed.

When your satellite signals get crossed, nothing good can happen.

Synopsis
A crossed signal here and there results in the unholy chimera offspring of every reality show currently on television. The horror, the horror...

Trivia
* This was shot in Graham, Kathleen and Alex's new place before they moved in any furniture.
* "Pwn'd" first appeared in a Season Two video of the same name.
* The reality shows made fun of are, in this order, Hoarders, Punk’d, Intervention, The Bachelor, and American Idol (with a Jersey Shore reference in the stinger for “good” measure).
