Milestones
- At 5:09pm PST on Sunday 19 November (55:09 into the run), $4 million lifetime total was reached.
Notable Memes and Happenings
- For the first time, a JVC X'Eye system was used to play instead of a Sega CD system, allowing for higher-resolution upscaled video output.
- The new high-resolution gaming setup made night-time bus stops possible for the first time. Ian was the first to achieve a successful night-time bus stop, 13:32 into the run.
- This year's model of The Button was wireless for the first time.
- Multiple attempts were made in the first couple days to top James's Bop-It score of 79.
- Andrew set a new high bar for entrances, with an SNL opening sequence leading into his being escorted in by marching band Bučan Bučan.
- Cori had a playlist of Chicken EDM songs, which alternated with Andrew's random dance party songs at times during Andrew's shift (and sometimes beyond).
- Several of the crashes on Days 2–3 were due to technical issues, not driver failure. Eventually, The Device was disconnected.
- The third Bus King pageant was won by Alex.
- The portal to Gangnam Hell was opened just as Beej was starting his driver shift. Things have never been the same since.
- Beej set the record for the longest driver intro. As it was never really declared closed, we could still be effectively living in Beej's driver intro.
- We had a record number of bus stops this year.
- The "drumroll" sound effect for announcing the winners of giveaways was changed several times during the run, mainly during Zeta Shift. These included chicken sounds, an extended Beej drop, and Alex's "poops2day" song.
- There were less than half the previous number of auctions and giveaways, to provide more breathing room for the crew. The resulting vibe was variously described as "chill" and "Desert Bus for Sanity."
- There were so many dabs.
- There was a lot of airhorn. During Zeta Shift on Day 4, Andy recorded a new airhorn sound on his harmonica, which was played several times during his driving shift.
- Team Order attempted to have the donation total reach exact numbers such as $444,444, $450,000, or $456,789. Team Chaos tried to prevent this.
- After 444,444 failed to be achieved, Fugi recoded the overlay such that it would display in the Wingdings font whenever a donation total that was a multiple of $5,000 was displayed.
- Kathleen, representing Team Chaos, and Serge, representing Team Order, reached an accord: if the donation total hit exactly $500,000, Serge would scatter glitter all over the room, and Kathleen would vacuum it up. A well-timed $4265.26 donation from Kiyote brought the total to a perfectly balanced $500,005. Kiyote was given the final vote, and opted to proceed with the glittering.
- It was discovered shortly after the run that the bug splat comes five hours into a run even if you've crashed and are being towed. [31]
