We're dropping at whatever Blackout's version of Pochinki is with some Call of Duty Black Ops news.
- Black Ops 4 is out and unsurprisingly has launch with more than a few tricks borrowed from, you guessed it, PUBG and Fortnite. I'm sure you've heard by now that CoDBlops4 nicked the single player campaign in favour of a battle royale mode which, of course, comes complete with Fortnite style emotes. The problem is in order the appreciate an emote you really have to see your character using it and to see your character using it, you really need to be in third person mode. Which means if you use an emote in Black Ops 4 you get popped into a third person camera mode with free-look functionality which, in addition to looking at your emote, is a very fast and easy way to see around corners and through walls to look at things your character shouldn't be able to see.
- Gamesindustry.biz ran an interesting breakdown of Call of Duty associated merchandise targeted at children. In the article, Activision's VP of Consumer Products Philippe Bost pointed out that these items were unofficial and not licensed through Activision. He stated plainly,
We never make any product close to 18 years old. It is always adult, adult, clearly adult. The product should always be adult. There is no confusion, Call of Duty is always 18+.The rest of the article is Bost doing a series of amusing mental gymnastics to justify the Call of Duty Megablox sets.
- Star Citizen is still happening. It got a new, 2 hour demo a Citizen-con 2018 that showed off an encounter with an AI controlled enemy and a brand new space city the size of Austin, Texas. Oh and a new ship that you'll be able to buy for 330 real earth dollars once the early alpha 3.3 build goes live.
- Rockstar Games Vice President and thing-dower Dan Houser touted that the team has been working 100 hour weeks to bring the upcoming Red Dead Redemption II up to the quality level they desire. Setting off another series of industry wide complaints and hot takes on the state of crunch in the AAA gaming space and vilifying Rockstar for predatory practices that we have seen time and again in an industry that refuses to let it's employees unionise.
Playstation 4 owners are warning each other to change their message settings to friends only because of a text message exploit that brick consoles.
