Questions

Twitch Captions

Wonder Moo asks: Is it possible to get Closed Captioning up on the Twitch Streams? I know it may be difficult with streaming from many different locations/setups right now, but it is an accessibility feature that would be much appreciated.

  • Graham: Yes. I'm kind of embarrassed we didn't already.

NOTE ON TWITCH CAPTIONS: As it turns out, using CC via Twitch extensions involves sending all the audio through a third-party website, which is fine, but challenging with how we currently run our streams from many different locations. We’re working on it, and will have CC enabled on at least some of our streams as soon as we can. Thanks for your patience!

Favorite dog breed

Eric Choinière asks: What is your favorite kind of dog> My girlfriend says Serge seems like the type of person who squeals when they see a Corgi.

  • Serge: I have a tendency to like small dogs with jowls, the more jowls the better.
  • Graham: I am a big fan of Corgis. I like small dogs, but not jappy dogs. The big, charismatic, fluff ones like Huskies and Samoyeds are also amazing.
  • Wheeler: I just really like dogs. I love Boston Terriers, I enjoy the company of a French Bulldog, Pugs, that kind of thing. But what I really want is a Chow Chow or a Shar-Pei

Working with LRR

Pinball Witch asks: Ben, being more or less the newest member of LRR what has it been like for you? Serge, as someone who's been around for quite a while but definitely increased in activity more as time went on, what about you? And Graham, what's it been like getting to work with all these different talented and wonderful people over the years?

  • Wheeler: Part of it is that I have known all of you for like a decade now, so that part was "these are the same people I have known for x years". But the whole "I should do content creation" was great because not often do people have resources in their grasp of people that they know who they can ask "How do you do thing? Please help."
  • Serge: Some of my first thing with LRR were in late 2013, early 2014 and it started from "This is kind of neat, I'm occasionally appearing in videos" and then there was this really weird period of "Is this my job?" and now it's "Hey, I guess this is my job". It wasn't every really deliberate. Especially in the early days, I didn't want to be a bother so I was asking myself "What is my relationship here? When is it acceptable to ask to be in something I want to be in? When am I overstepping things?" and then always being way to conservative. That feeling has only recently gone away.
  • Wheeler: It's comforting to know that feeling of uncertainty regarding pitching ideas, making suggestions or asking to be in too many things is no, if we didn't want you to do things we probably wouldn't ask you to do all these things.
  • Graham: And fundamentally the way people get more involved is by saying "Hey, I could do that".
  • Graham (answering his question): It's been great. I don't have a social life outside of LRR. All of the people at LRR are my friends and that's terrific.
