Graham & Paul, HD and the new camera, Hitman, DVD update.
Featured Video: Now in HD
Date: June 30, 2006
Video was exactly what it looked like - just excited to do a video in HD. First really major purchase for the site. Other was part of the computer from the Rock the Vote money. Got a good deal on eBay. Sony HDR-FX1. Got editor's choice on CNet. Shoots in widescreen and HDV, uses same mini-dv tapes that they've been using. Still gets and hour of footage to a tape, 4 times as much information. Previous video was 4:3, 720:460 pixels, now it's 16:9 1920 by 1080 pixels. 1080 60i. Lots of technical terms - they all mean it's awesome (and will look awesome).
One of the best things you can do with comedy is take it seriously. Funny subject matter + funny camera angles doesn't necessarily equate to more funny. If it weren't for the dialog, Monty Python could be a wonderful historic epic.
Used Matt as a tripod on several occasions - not because they had to but because they wanted to.
Video shot over several days - "IT'S IN HD!" shot at the Tea Party, both during and after.
Cast (particularly Paul) has gotten more comfortable with public displays like shooting in the middle of a fair.
Traumatic carnie stories from Graham's past.
Don't need to edit in HD, can just down sample to widescreen. The site doesn't host HD, but the DVD will look better. Will also look better at film festivals and stuff.
DVD Update - nothing new. Not entirely happy with proof of covers, so having it redone. New LoadingReadyRun promise - every dvd contains an entire ass. Previous promise (from Season 1 commentary): never will we do anything that will make our participants vomit. Rather naive, given's Bill's Revenge. Will be out very soon.
Call to action: Started setting up Wikipedia entry, some info added to it. Given a week to prove they are important, so if someone knows how to do that, please do.
What We're Playing Now
Paul and Graham - Hitman 4 - Blood Money
Paul on PC, Graham on 360. Very much a hitman game. Looks like a standard shooting game, but the mechanics are similar to something like Myst - just replace books with disguises and magical worlds with hookers and cocaine. Have to figure out what to do in the manner of a puzzle, but then you also have to go through with it. It's fun to figure out how to make it look like an accident. Sadly, doesn't allow for puns, because then you'd blow your cover. Possible spoilers.
Good game, maybe a little short. Definite replay value.
The Decision Makers - one of Graham's favorite machinima that they've made - made with Hitman 2.
