Synopsis
Graham, James, Paul, and Alex convene at Graham and Kathleen's apartment to watch a replay of Pro Tour Dragon's Maze. James has prepared a variety of Magic-themed snacks for the occasion, including a suspicious-looking "Simic Slaw" that no one will touch; he is hurt when Graham, who simply brought a bag of chips, refuses to conform to his theming efforts. Though they are watching a pre-recorded replay, they do not know the outcome of the tour. They treat their viewing session in a manner typically associated with fans of more traditional sporting events: they wear jerseys with the names of their favorite players, heatedly debate the finer points of the game, and dispute judge calls.
Meanwhile, at the Moonbase, Kathleen walks in on Jer and Cam, triumphantly clutching a box of Modern Masters. The three of them fawn over it, dreaming of the incredibly valuable cards inside. Jer pressures the other two to open the box and at least one booster pack; however, they are resolute that they should wait for the other four and draft with the contents of the box instead. As time goes on, their determination begins to waver. Cam, who has not yet had caffeine that day, runs out to get coffee; despite his dire warnings, Kathleen cracks under Jer's tempting suggestions and the two open a pack. When Cam returns, he and Kathleen become distracted debating their first pick from the pack, and Jer opens the rest of the packs and performs a mock draft before they have time to stop him. After brawling for a while, the three of them realize that they can simply reconcile all of the opened packs into a cube that they can draft from whenever they want. Anxious to begin, Kathleen calls Graham and spoils the ending of the Pro Tour in order to get him and the others to return to the Moonbase.
Trivia
- The "Simic Slaw" resurfaced in an episode of TapTapConcede, where the crew mentioned that it gave off a very strong stench that complicated shooting the episode. Besides the obvious octopus tentacle, James continues to be deliberately vague about its contents.
